UrbanArts is a non-profit Community Arts Council focused on enhancing neighbourhoods by engaging youth in community development through the arts. UrbanArts initiates arts activities that bring people together in York South -Weston and city wide. One of six local arts organizations across Toronto, UrbanArts is an incubator for local arts, with a range of programs led by professional artists in visual art, theatre, dance and music. Our mandate is to promote, engage and facilitate cultural and community development opportunities between artists, arts organizations, community members and community organizations.

Culinary Arts – Food is the universal convenor and for our Culinary Arts program we see this play out every Friday night to a packed house of children and tweens all gathering to learn about food and food artistry. Our skilled chefs lead engaged classes where the participants learn about healthy food choices and how to prepare meals that are easy and nutritious.   Fridays 4-6PM

Community Garden – The Community garden program has been active since 2014. The garden offers opportunities for local residents and youth to learn about food security issues and gain knowledge about growing food, really getting connected to where food comes from. The SummerArts Camp and the Culinary Program use the harvested crops in food preparation.

Snack N’ Chat – Weekly community gatherings with facilitated discussions covering relevant topics to youth and community members. Participants share food, entertainment and connection in a safe and inclusive space. Fridays 6-7:30
